Carroll County Records
Carroll County was established by an act of the Georgia legislature on June 9, 1825. It was named for Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Maryland, the last living signer of the Declaration of Independence. The original Carroll County was a very large triangular area extending from Alabama on the west to the Chattahoochee River on the east and south. The northern boundary of the county was the Cherokee Nation. Eventually parts of five other counties, viz: Campbell, Douglas, Haralson, Heard, and Troup were taken from the original Carroll County. Carroll County was the famous Creek Indian lands signed away in the Treaty of Indian Springs in 1825 which got chief William McIntosh murdered. The home of Chief McIntosh was located in present-day Carroll County along the Chattahoochee River. Much of the personal land of McIntosh, known since 1825 as the McIntosh Reserve, is today a county park. The county seat was originally located at Old Carrollton, in the eastern part of the county near the community of Sand Hill. In 1829 the current site was selected, and the name Troupsville was suggested by the inhabitants. Researchers should consider the bordering Alabama counties when doing research.Records Available to Members of Georgia Pioneers

Campbell County Records
Campbell County was formed by an act of the Georgia Legislature December 20, 1828 taking land from Carroll, Coweta, DeKalb, and Fayette Counties. In 1832 land from the Cherokee Land Lottery was added, for a total to about 192 square miles. On October 17, 1870 the land lying north of the river was taken along with some of eastern Carroll to form what is now Douglas County. The rest merged with Fulton on January 1, 1932. Campbell County was named in honor of Colonel Duncan G. Campbell. He and James Meriwether negotiated the Indian Springs Treaty in which the Creek Indian land was ceded on February 12, 1825. The County seat was Campbellton until 1870. It was then moved to Fairburn where it remained for the life of the county. The county existed from 1828 to 1931 when it was finally merged into Fulton County.Campbell County Records Available to Members of Georgia Pioneers

The first known residents were the Mocoma Indians, a predecessor to the Creek confederacy which controlled this land until 1763. On San Pedro Island the Spanish built two missions and had a presidio, at least for a while. By 1690 the Spanish mission was gone but this county was dangerously close to St. Augustine Florida and the site of the Spanish fort which ruled the country until 1745 when General Oglethorpe of Georgia won the land war against Spain. Throughout the colonial period, the Spanish converted local Indians to Catholism (called "Spanish-Indians" and used them for raids against the Georgia colony. Two parishes were created during Colonial days, the Parishes of St. Thomas and St. Mary in 1765, from the Creek Land Cession of 1763. This country played a vivid history during the American Revolution, with Loyalists escaping into Florida via the St. Mary's River. After the Revolutionary War, it was one of te the "Original Counties" which were created in the 1777 and was named for Charles Pratt, the Earl of Camden, who was a strong supporter of American Independence. During the 19th century some of the Loyalist traitors returned to Georgia to reside in Camden County. Reseaching the census records for Camden County reveals persons born in Florida and Georgia. Researchers should consider bordering Florida counties as a source of Will Book B was burned.

Butts County Records
Butts County was created in 1825 from portions of Henry and Monroe Counties. The name was taken from Captain Samuel Butts, a member of the Georgia Militia who was killed in the battle against the Creek Indians during the War of 1812. The town of Jackson was in honor of Andrew Jackson, a Georgia Hero, whose campaigns against the Creeks was memorable to Georgians; and also for his victory over British forces at the Battle of New Orleans. Researchers should search Henry County Records; particularly the deeds where many Butts residents are found.Records available to Members of Georgia Pioneers

Burke County Records
The land that would form Burke County was ceded to the English by the Creek Treaties of 1733, 1735 and 1736. By an Act of March 15, 1758 the parish of St. George was established. The county was named for Edmund Burke, a member of the British Parliament who championed the rights of the American colonies. Between 1793 and 1905, the legislature took land from Burke County to help form the new counties of Screven (1793), Jefferson (1796), and Jenkins (1905), and to add area to Richmond County (1841). The county seat of Waynesboro was established in 1794, named after the Revolutionary War hero General. The first will book did not survive. Will Book A, as is included herein, began in 1855; however, the earliest will found in that batch was dated in 1803. Essentially, 1855 and later is more specific to the probate date than to the date in which the wills were signed.Records available to Members of Georgia Pioneers
